Ductwork in an old city

Spokane ducts have seen a lot of history

Many homes in Manito, West Central, Hillyard and Emerson-Garfield have ductwork that has been through several heating systems. Some runs date back to the original furnace. Others were added during a fuel conversion or a later remodel, then patched and extended as the house changed. Each joint and dead end is a place where dust, debris and the odd lost toy can settle for years.

Older houses also tend to have floor registers, which act like little funnels. Sand, pet hair, crumbs and grit from winter boots drop straight into the ducts below. When the blower kicks on, some of that gets stirred back into the room.

Remodel dust in older homes

Opening plaster and lath walls throws off very fine dust, and it finds its way into returns fast, especially if the system ran during the work. After a South Hill kitchen or bath remodel, we often find a gray layer coating the return side. That's a job where cleaning clearly pays off.

New builds on the North Side

Newer homes on Five Mile Prairie and in Northwest Spokane have cleaner, simpler duct layouts, but construction leaves drywall dust and sawdust behind. If the furnace ran during construction, a cleaning before you move in, or soon after, is worth considering.

Complete air duct cleaning

What our Spokane duct cleaning covers

We size each job to your home, the layout of its ducts and the reason you called.

Whole-home duct cleaning

We loosen buildup in the supply and return runs and pull it out under vacuum, so it leaves the house instead of landing in your rooms.

Supply and return vents

Registers and grilles come off and get cleaned, including the floor registers common in older Spokane homes.

System inspection

We check the blower, the coil and the filter slot. Clean ducts won't stay clean if the furnace itself is coated in dust.

Mold and odor reduction

Musty ducts usually trace back to a damp basement or crawlspace. We clean and point you to the moisture source, because that has to be fixed too.

Airflow check after

We confirm air is moving well at the registers when we're done, and flag loose or crushed runs we found along the way.

Filter advice

A better filter that fits snug keeps the ducts cleaner for longer. We'll recommend one your system can handle.

How it works

From dusty vents to a clean system

Four steps, and you know the price before we start the cleaning.

  1. Tell us why

Remodel, pests, odor, allergies or plain dust. The reason shapes the job.

  2. Look inside

We open registers, check the returns and inspect the furnace and ducts we can reach.

  3. Straight answer

If cleaning will help, you get a price. If a filter or duct repair is the better fix, we say so.

  4. Clean and check

We clean the runs, vents and system parts, then check airflow and clean up.

Honest duct cleaning

Some Spokane homes need it. Plenty don't.

Cleaning is clearly worth it after a remodel, after mice have been in the basement ducts, or when a damp space has left mold that's since been dried out. It's less useful when the ducts look fine and the real issue is a thin filter or a leaky return pulling in basement or attic dust. We'll show you what's inside and let you decide.

There's no fixed schedule. Many homes go several years between cleanings, or never need one. Schedule it sooner after a remodel, a pest problem or if someone in the house has bad allergies and we find heavy buildup inside.

Yes, when it's done carefully. Older Spokane ductwork can have fragile joints and old tape, so we inspect first and work gently, then reconnect anything we find loose.

It helps when the ducts are actually dirty, such as after a remodel. For everyday dust, a better filter and sealed return ducts usually matter more. We'll tell you which one your home needs.

Most homes take a few hours. Larger older homes with long runs, many floor registers or several additions can take most of a day. We'll give you an estimate when we inspect.

Clearing heavy buildup or blockages can improve airflow so your system works less. The bigger efficiency gains usually come from sealing leaky joints, which we check for while we're in there.

It depends on what we find. Sound metal ducts can be cleaned and sealed. Rusted, crushed or badly patched sections are better replaced. We'll show you photos and let you decide. See our ductwork repair page for more.

If the furnace ran during construction without a good filter, there may be drywall dust in the system. A quick inspection tells you whether a cleaning is worth it.
